Field NotesNotes

A quieter web.

Small observations on useful technology, thoughtful design, and keeping things simple.

01 / Design

Clarity is a feature

A good interface gives people room to think. Clear language, predictable navigation and a little space can do more than a long list of controls.

Start with the task at hand. Remove what does not help. Keep the important actions visible, and let the rest wait until they are needed.

02 / Technology

Building for the long term

Resilient systems are understandable systems. Simple components, careful updates and recoverable backups make it easier to find a problem when something changes.

Small, regular checks are often more useful than complicated machinery that nobody remembers how to operate.

03 / Practice

Leave room to improve

Useful work rarely arrives fully formed. Write down assumptions, test them in the real world and adjust when the evidence changes.
